Why Olive Oil is a Superfood

Extra Virgin olive oil doesn’t get its reputation as a superfood for no reason!

Olive oil is loaded with healthy unsaturated fats that may lower your risk of heart disease. Also, healthy fats can promote good cholesterol and help regulate your blood sugar. In addition, it has a high concentration of vitamin E and K and high amounts of calcium, iron, sodium, and potassium. Furthermore, olive oil contains plenty of beneficial polyphenols – the natural compounds in plant foods with antioxidant properties. Antioxidants support our immune systems and ultimately help us protect against environmental toxicity by fighting free radicals, which can damage healthy cells. In 2012, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) approved the following claim: “olive oil polyphenols contribute to the protection of blood lipids from oxidative stress.”

The Sphera Extra Virgin Olive Oil has a high amount of phenols, and according to the European Union Regulation 432/2012, daily consumption of 20g of Sphera Extra Virgin Olive Oil protects the blood lipids from oxidative stress.
